Old Street Digital Cluster

Moorfields Eye Hospital

Pilbrow & Partners were commissioned by Moorfields Hospital Trust and UCL to prepare an illustrative masterplan to demonstrate the development potential of their City Road site. The study, developed in liaison with the London Borough of Islington and the GLA, supported the Trust’s planned relocation to St Pancras. The proposals represent a considered and appropriate approach to the redevelopment of the Moorfields Eye Hospital Site. P&P’s proposals are mindful of heritage considerations and the local townscape yet recognise Islington’s ambitions to reinforce and expand the emergence of digital clusters at Old Street Roundabout. In so doing, P & P also seek to aid the sustainable increase of employment in the area. The proposals retain, restore and enhance the key heritage assets on site: Kemp house, Moorfields eye hospital and King George V extension. The redeveloped site integrates with the character and urban morphology of its setting. The site will play a key role in the consolidation and expansion of the cluster of technology firms that has become well established around the wider Old Street area.
