Greenwich Riverside Towers
The Waterman
The Waterman is a key residential aspect of the Greenwich Riverside masterplan. Comprising a slender tall building, a perimeter block with a courtyard and a new public square, it delivers 269 new homes, and public amenities, at the heart of a new urban district in the east of Greenwich Peninsula. The first of the two residential buildings is a six-storey block, with carefully scaled street facades at the perimeter, and a private internal garden for residents. Townhouses activate the base of the building; their two-storey scale expressed as a robust stone plinth. The top floor cantilevers out towards the Thames, to create four penthouses with an uninterrupted panorama of the London Docklands, plus views over the waterfront and the Thames’ historic coal loader jetty. On a grander scale is the 31-storey tower. This waterside residential building incorporates two wings flanking a central core. Each wing contains three homes, ensuring each apartment is dual aspect, while L-shaped living rooms set around generous corner balconies maximise panoramic views. At the uppermost floors, the tower steps back to a single wing, giving way for a communal residential garden, and creating a refined silhouette. At basement level, the tower features additional communal facilities for all residents, including a cinema and club room. Ground floor residential is elevated above semi-recessed parking, lifting these apartments, with private terraces overlooking the footway, above the public realm. This gentle rise in the road also creates step-free access to the public square, Tidemill Square, which connects to a shared landscaped courtyard beyond.
